Continuing Care Assistant
Main Duties
- Assisting residents with bathing, dressing, grooming, shaving, and oral hygiene.
- Helping residents with movement, transferring (e.g., in and out of bed, chairs, and wheelchairs), repositioning to ensure comfort, and providing assistance with range - of-motion exercises.
- Preparing and serving meals and snacks. also help with feeding residents who need assistance and monitor their intake of food and fluids.
- Aiding with using toilet, commode, or urinal, and helping with bowel and bladder programs.
- Documenting and reporting any changes in a resident's physical or mental condition, such as mood shifts, behavior, skin changes, or signs of illness.
- Taking and recording resident's vital signs, such as temperature and blood pressure, and pulse.
- Collecting specimens like urine or sputum for testing, as directed by nursing staff.
- Assisting residents with self-administration of medication or reminding them to take it, as per the care plan.
- Providing companionship to residents, engaging in conversation, and participating in recreational activities.
- Promoting the social, emotional, and spiritual well-being of residents by providing a listening ear and fostering a sense of community.
- performing tasks such as making beds, changing linens, and tidying resident's room to maintain a clean and safe environment.
- Following proper procedure for hygiene, sanitation, and the use of personal protective equipment to prevent the spread of infections.
- Maintaining and recording current and accurate information in resident's charts.
- Monitoring and maintaining an inventory of supplies used by residents, such as hygiene products.
- Identifying and reporting safety hazards in resident's rooms and the facility.
- Communicating effectively and politely with residents, families, and the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
Qualifications
- Post-secondary diploma in Personal Support Worker (PSW), Nursing Aide, or Health Care Program, or equivalent.
- CPR/AED/First-Aid certification.
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Good English communication skills: Cebuano is an asset.
- Food handling certification (Food Safety).
- Ability to drive; willing to obtain class 5 license.
- Able to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving, and time management skills.
